Roane County man fired gun in domestic disturbance, police say
WALTON, W.Va. -- State Police in Roane County said a man fired several shots and allegedly made threats to kill his wife early Saturday.At about 3 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm at a home along Payne Ridge Road in Walton, State Police Spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous wrote in a news release.
Trooper J.M. Bragg and Cpl. J.T. Portillo, of the Spencer Detachment, met a woman outside who said her husband, Robert James Sherrill, 34, threatened to kill her. The woman told police Sherrill was extremely drunk and fired gunshots after she ran away from him, the release states.Trooper Bragg called for backup after allegedly finding several gunshot holes outside the house.At about 11 a.m. Saturday, Sherrill came out of the house and peacefully surrendered to members of the State Police's Special Response Team. He was charged with felony wanton endangerment. He was being held in Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment in Roane County Magistrate Court.
