Program targets drug abuse in north central W.Va.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- A new education and outreach program targeting drug abuse is launching in north central West Virginia.The program is called Project Future: The Right Prescription for West Virginia. Law enforcement officials and local school administrators announced the effort Thursday in Clarksburg.
Members of the Greater Harrison County Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force board will visit schools across the region during the next year. The visits will include guest speakers who have experiences with addiction.Community awareness meetings for parents will take place in the evenings.U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II says the goal is for every child to live a life free from substance abuse. Harrison County assistant schools superintendent Gregory Moore says the program will supplement programs already in place in the county's schools.
