Greenbrier County woman arrested on embezzlement charges
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- State Police arrested a woman on forgery and embezzlement charges after receiving a complaint from representatives of the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging.
Lisa C. Ayers of Charmco was arrested Monday and charged with forgery, access device fraud and embezzlement. She was arraigned in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court and posted bail.
Ayers had been employed as the agency's financial officer.
After receiving the complaint from the Committee on Aging, Cpl. G.J. Reed of the State Police's Lewisburg detachment launched an investigation and discovered
a substantial amount of money being embezzled from the agency, according to a news release.
Reed learned that the money was stolen from the Committee on Aging through the
issuance of fraudulent checks and illegal ATM withdraws, which had occurred
over the past two years.
