Alzheimer's support

Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter, will host a support group at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the chapter's headquarters, 1601 Second Ave. The support group is for people who have a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, or caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The group meets monthly on the second Tuesday. The chapter has a statewide network of Alzheimer's and dementia support groups; for a list, visit or call 800-272-3900.

Sissonville PSD

Sissonville Public Service District will hold its regular board meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the district office, 6438 Sissonville Drive. For information, call 304-984-3396.

Hypertension support

Charleston Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bible Center Church, Southridge campus. Dinner will be served and Erica Barker of Philips Electronics, will speak on "Who Benefits from Patient PT/INR Testing?" Pulmonary hypertension patients and families are encouraged to attend. Lenten retreat

West Virginia Institute for Spirituality will offer a Lenten silent-directed retreat from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at 1601 Virginia St. E. Barbecue benefit

The Bill Young Memorial Foundation will hold a barbecue benefit dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ridgeview BBQ in Institute, across from West Virginia State University. The price is $15 per person, $7.50 for kids 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the foundation. The menu includes Ridge View pulled pork barbecue, grilled chicken, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, lemonade, iced tea and desserts. The foundation was founded in October 2007 in honor of Bill Young, who lost his courageous battle against brain cancer in April 2007. The funds provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families through the endowment fund with the Charleston Area Medical Center Foundation. For questions, call 304-541-7118 or email
