W.Va. Democrats get new executive director
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Democratic Party Chairman Larry Puccio announced Tuesday that party voter-file manager Jacob Winowich will become the state party's executive director.
"I'm happy to have Jacob stay on in this new leadership role," Puccio said.
Winowich has been with the state Democratic Party since August 2011, starting as a field organizer, and then managing the party's database systems in 2012. Most recently, he helped oversee the party's finances.
Winowich also has worked for the Democratic Party in New Mexico, where he served as opposition research director. He also has experience serving campaigns on statewide and legislative district races in numerous states.
Winowich will succeed Derek Scarbro, who is joining LGCR Government Solutions LLC, the lobbying subsidiary of the law firm Lewis, Glasser, Casey & Rollins PLLC, beginning March 18.
Scarbro announced in January he would step down after serving more than nine years as the state party's executive director.
Winowich lives in Charleston with his fiancée. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, N.M., and graduated from New Mexico State University. Winowich's father grew up in Charleston, and he has extended family living in the city.
