Buckhannon considers banning tobacco in parks


BUCKHANNNON, W.Va. -- Buckhannon City Council is considering banning tobacco in all city-owned parks and other recreational facilities.The ban would include the annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival.The Inter-Mountain reports that the council plans to vote on the proposed ordinance at its April 4 meeting.If the ordinance is approved, it would go into effect May 4.
Violators would face a $50 fine for a first offense. The fine would increase for subsequent offenses, up to a maximum $500 for a fifth or subsequent offense with-in a 24-month period.
