Wood board doesn't rehire teacher in box incident

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- The Wood County Board of Education won't renew the contract of a teacher who put a box labeled "bad kid fort'' around a special-needs student.Assistant superintendent Bob Harris tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that Parkersburg High School teacher Amanda Terrell wasn't on a list of probationary and continuing contracts approved by the board Tuesday.
Beth Dean and Jeff Richards have said a teacher at the school put a cardboard box around their 15-year-old son's seat because of his behavior in the classroom. The teen has Asperger's syndrome.Contracts also won't be offered to Jesse Young, another Parkersburg High teacher who was involved in a video showing students dancing inappropriately, and a third teacher who wasn't identified.
