Unveiling set for Manchin's State Capitol portrait

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The latest portrait of a former West Virginia governor will soon adorn the state Capitol.A ceremony this morning will unveil the official portrait for now-U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin.The Democrat was governor from 2005 until 2010, when he won the special U.S. Senate election prompted by the death of Robert C. Byrd.Following state tradition, Manchin's portrait will hang in the governor's Capitol reception room along with that of his immediate predecessor.
The portraits of earlier governors line the Capitol's main corridor.Artist Larry Bruce Bishop painted Manchin's portrait. Manchin and former First Lady Gayle Manchin are expected to attend the unveiling. So is Manchin's successor, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.A public reception at the nearby Culture Center will follow the morning ceremony.
