CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Legislature's workload this session also includes settling more than $1.8 million in claims against state agencies.The House of Delegates unanimously approved two measures Wednesday resolving more than 310 of these cases.The largest payment is nearly $583,000 to G.A. Brown & Son. It resolves a contract dispute arising from the construction of the state's nursing home for veterans.
A $200,000 claim covered by the legislation pays M.S. Consultants Inc. for architectural services for the Kenneth Honey Rubenstein Center for juveniles.More than 250 of the claims total $745,000 and arise from highway accidents. One of those is for $200,000 and another is for $125,000.The Senate already has approved paying nearly $89,000 of these claims. Most of those reflect funds owed by the state Racing Commission.
