School retireesThe Kanawha County Association of Retired School Employees will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16700 Kanawha Blvd. E. Karen McClure of the Department of Natural Resources will present the program on bears and birds. Bring a covered dish to share following the meeting.DAR luncheonThe Kanawha Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at noon April 13 for a covered dish luncheon at the South Charleston Public Library. Members are asked to bring a salad, a vegetable or dessert. Meat will be provided by the chapter. Reservations are not required but are appreciated. Jack Crutchfield, an amateur historian from Huntington, will speak on "Cemetery Research and Preservation." Hostesses will be Carolyn Rabalais and Patty Young. The Good Citizen contest winners will receive their awards. Bring Campbell product labels and Box Tops for Education for the Schools Committee and canceled postage stamps for the Veterans Committee.
Silent auction/luncheonCross Lanes Christian School on Floradale Drive in Cross Lanes will have its Gifts of Spring Silent Auction from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 20 at the school. A live auction and barbecue luncheon will be held from 12:30 to 1:30pm. Admission is $10. For tickets, call 304-776-5020 for tickets.Charter celebrationThe Charleston Young Professionals Kiwanis Club will host a Charter Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. April 20 at the Appalachian Power Park Clubhouse. The event is open to the public and there is an option to attend the baseball game afterward. Tickets must be purchased by April 12. Tickets for the Charter Celebration are $21 or $26 with a ticket to the game and will include hors d'oeuvres and drink tickets.
