Hospital lays off 69 workers in W.Va., Ohio
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Pleasant Valley Hospital has laid off 69 workers at its facilities in West Virginia and Ohio.
Hospital officials tell media outlets that 32 workers voluntarily agreed to be laid off. All the affected workers received severance packages.
Layoffs occurred at the hospital's main campus in Point Pleasant and at its offices in Jackson County and Meigs County, Ohio.
Pleasant Valley CEO Tom Schauer attributed the layoffs to several factors. They include implementation of the federal Affordable Care Act and less than anticipated utilization. He says these issues are affecting hospitals across the country.
Schauer says the layoffs won't affect the level of care provided by the hospital.
