Police investigate Orchard Manor shootout
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police are trying to piece together what led to a shootout that sent bullets flying through a West Side housing complex Monday.
Sgt. Eric Hodges, of the Charleston Police Department, said several people got into a gunbattle on Hutchinson Street in the Orchard Manor housing complex a little after 7 p.m. Hodges said numerous shots were fired.
However, "We found no evidence that anything was hit," Hodges said. He said police believe several people arrived at the housing complex in a car right before the shooting started.
Police aren't yet sure how many people were actually firing. "We've got reports of up to five or six," he said. He said police are questioning neighbors and have collected evidence from the scene.
Police don't yet have any solid suspects, Hodges said. Reach Rusty Marks at firstname.lastname@example.org or 304-348-1215.
