MALDEN, W.Va. -- A 22-year-old Malden mother and her boyfriend were arrested after police said they found the pair making methamphetamine in a home Thursday night with a 4-month-old child present.Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested Chelsey Hancock just after 11 p.m. at 649 Hawes Drive when they discovered during an investigation an active meth lab in a back bedroom of the residence.Her boyfriend, James Triplett, who was allegedly helping make meth, fled the scene when officers arrived.
Deputies said they saw a smoky vapor emitting from a clear plastic bottle along with numerous other items used in making meth.
Nine motor vehicle inspection stickers, believed to be stolen, were also recovered during the investigation, police said.Hancock faces charges for conspiracy to operate a clandestine drug lab, exposure of meth to first responders, exposure of meth to children, and child neglect with risk of injury. Deputies arrested Triplett on similar charges related to meth making on Thursday afternoon. Hancock's child was released to family members.Hancock and Triplett were being held in South Central Regional Jail each in lieu of a $25,000, or 10 percent cash, bail.
