Boone man recovering from downtown beating

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Boone County man found beaten unconscious in a downtown Charleston alley last week is recovering.John Dolin, 37, of Peytona, remains at CAMC General Hospital, but his condition is improving, said Lt. Steve Cooper, chief detective of the Charleston Police Department.Dolin was unresponsive when found in an alley behind the 200 block of Capitol Street about 6:30 a.m. April 19.He was last seen about 2:15 that morning at Sam's Uptown Café. Police said Dolin was unharmed at the time and appeared to be alone. The place where he was found is around the corner from Sam's and about a block away.
Police said Dolin was robbed and beaten and suffered head trauma in the attack. His empty wallet was found nearby.The alley runs behind Capitol Street between Quarrier and Lee streets. Dolin was found near the Quarrier Street entrance, about 50 feet down the alley.Immediately after he was found, Dolin was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at CAMC General. Cooper said Monday that Dolin's condition is improving.Police have no suspects in the case. Police were hoping video surveillance footage from cameras in the area might help identify Dolin's attacker, but they said those efforts have not yielded much information.Reach Rusty Marks at or 304-348-1215.
