8 sex-offender probation officers to be sworn in


CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Eight probation officers who deal exclusively with sex offenders are being sworn in this week in West Virginia.Called intensive-supervision officers, they provide more stringent oversight to those convicted of sexual offenses. They work out of their vehicles instead of offices and are available holidays, nights and weekends.Supreme Court Chief Justice Brent D. Benjamin will deliver the oath of office to the eight new officers Wednesday in Charleston. The new officers will replace officers who have resigned and to meet an increase in the number of sex offenders being released from prison.The newly sworn in officers will be assigned throughout the state.
