Spaghetti dinner/silent auction
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Minerva Center for Academic Success is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner/silent auction fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, located on Quarrier Street, directly across from the YWCA. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children ages 6 to 12; 5 and under are free. To-go orders are available. Auction bidding begins at 4:30 p.m. and items include Blenko vases, a WVU basketball, dinner for two and a night's lodging at Lakeview Resort, and a gift certificate for custom shirts and more. The Minerva Center is a private, non-traditional school in Charleston for middle school and high school students. Unity of Kanawha Valley will have its next Open Stage 4 Kids event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road. Performers ages 5-15 are invited to bring whatever talent they have. They can play an instrument, sing, dance, tell a joke, show a piece of art or magic or just talk into a microphone. Sky Kershner and Ron Sowell will host. Signups begin at 6 p.m. There is no charge. ;Community hike series
Charleston Montessori School students and families will host a community hike at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Kanawha State Forest's CCC Snipe Trail. The 3/4 mile trail begins at the group camp area behind the pool and is the eighth of 10 hikes in the school's "Life's a Hike, One Trail at a Time" spring hike series. Opera on the big screen
The Metropolitan Opera will present a new production of Julius Caesar/Guilio Cesare by Handle in high definition, live, from noon to approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cinemark in Barboursville and Royal in Nitro.
