CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Delegate Doug Skaff Jr., D-Kanawha, is considering a run for Congress.Political observers have frequently mentioned Skaff as a potential candidate for West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District seat, now held by Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who has announced plans to run for U.S. Senate."After careful thought, I have not ruled out the possibility of running for the 2nd Congressional District seat," Skaff said in a statement Thursday. "I am continuing to talk with people in our communities to inform a decision that would result in the best possible leadership for our state."
Skaff said he would announce whether he's running for Congress "in the upcoming weeks."
Other possible Democratic candidates for the 2014 race include Sen. Erik Wells, D-Kanawha, former Democratic Party chairman Nick Casey, and Sen. Herb Snyder, D-Jefferson.Republicans considering a run include House Minority Leader Tim Armstead, former state senator Steve Harrison, Delegate Patrick Lane and Delegate Eric Nelson. All are from Kanawha County.
