Shredding event set for Saturday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha Valley residents can dispose of sensitive documents during a "West Virginia Money Smart Week 'Fight Fraud, Shred Instead' " recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Gander Mountain parking lot at Southridge Centre.The free rain-or-shine event is sponsored by AARP West Virginia and the AARP Foundation, in partnership with the West Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol, West Virginia ElderWatch, Charleston Newspapers and Shred-It.People may securely dispose of residential paper documents that contain sensitive information, such as tax returns, bank statements, medical bills and credit card receipts. The shredded papers will be recycled into consumer paper products. Saturday's event is limited to the recycling of residential paper products -- no businesses -- with a limit of five bags or boxes per household.
Charleston Newspapers will collect newspapers, magazines and telephone directories for recycling during the event.For information, contact AARP Foundation at 800-799-4638.
