RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. -- A tip from another police agency led to a major heroin bust in Ravenswood on Thursday.
Ravenswood Police Chief Lance Morrison said Ravenswood authorities got a tip from police in Syracuse, Ohio about a local man who might be driving back to the Jackson County community with a load of heroin. Patrolman Joe Cogar stopped a car that fit the description and called in the Jackson County Sheriff's Department drug dog, who allegedly found 44 grams of heroin in the vehicle, Morrison said.
Morrison said heroin is selling for $300 to $500 a gram in Jackson County.
Josh Caruthers, 22, of Ravenswood, was arrested and faces drug charges, Morrison said. He said police searched Caruthers' apartment and allegedly found marijuana, needles and pills.
Caruthers was to be taken to the South Central Regional Jail.
"It was really a joint operation between Syracuse police and us," Morrison said.
