W.Va. to mark 250th anniversary of Cornstalk raid

SOUTH CHARLESTON -- West Virginia's upcoming 150th birthday isn't the state's only historically significant anniversary this year.It's also the 250th anniversary of Shawnee Chief Cornstalk's campaign against colonial settlements in what was then western Virginia.The Division of Natural Resources says Trails Inc. will commemorate Cornstalk's 1763 campaign with a series called "The Roots of the Un-Civil War" at several parks and state forests.Activities are scheduled May 4 at Kanawha State Forest, June 1 at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park, June 19 at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area in the Monongahela National Forest, July 6 at the National Park Service's Sandstone Visitor Center and Sept. 7 at Hawks Nest State Park.
