UBB group joins Preservation Alliance of W.Va.

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Members of the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group want to preserve and promote southern West Virginia's coal heritage.The volunteer group has joined the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia as a growth and development partner.
President Sheila Combs tells The Register-Herald that the memorial group is committed to preserving the region's coal heritage and the further development of coal-related tourism.Created in 2011, the group raised money and erected a memorial in Whitesville to the 29 miners killed in the 2010 explosion at the Upper Big Branch Mine. The group is now working on building a coal heritage park near the miners' memorial.
