Democrat McCabe undecided on re-election bid

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Longtime state Sen. Brooks McCabe, D-Kanawha, said Tuesday he remains undecided on whether to seek re-election or not.McCabe said he likely would announce his plans on June 3."I'm going to take my time and think it over," he said.Delegate Suzette Raines, R-Kanawha, announced plans to run for McCabe's 17th District Senate seat at a news conference Tuesday.
McCabe, 64, said Raines, a first-term House member, called him to let him know she plans to run in the 2014 race. He said Raines' announcement wouldn't sway his decision. He's defeated Republican candidates in past races."I wished her well," McCabe said. "I'm not worried about my opponents."Raines, who lives in St. Albans, won one of four seats in the 35th House District in November. She received the second-highest number of votes in the district.Candidates cannot officially file to run for state office until January 2014.McCabe has represented Kanawha County in the West Virginia Senate since 1998. He served eight years as chairman of the Senate Economic Development Committee. McCabe is managing member of West Virginia Commercial, a real estate firm.
