City's spring cleanup starts Monday
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- If you've been wanting to clean out our basement, attic or garage, now's the time -- at least in the city of Charleston.
Starting Monday and continuing every Monday through June 3 (except Memorial Day), Refuse Department crews will make special runs, neighborhood by neighborhood, to pick up just about anything you can haul out to the street.
"We will have special crews assigned to specific parts of the city to collect furniture, appliances and other non-traditional garbage that people throw out as they do their own spring cleaning in their homes," Mayor Danny Jones said in a news release.
"Our crews will not pick up batteries, toxic substances or paint cans that have not be properly dried, but they will collect just about everything else people place on the curb at the appropriate time."
First up for the special collection this Monday are residents whose trash is normally picked up on Tuesdays.
Trash for Wednesday customers will be picked up May 13, Thursday customers on May 20 and Friday customers on June 3.
To dispose used paint, treat cans with kitty litter, sand or another substance to completely dry all unused paint.
