13-year-old shot in the leg on West Side
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A 13-year-old was accidentally shot in the leg on the West Side on Monday night, according to Charleston police.
Dispatchers said they received the call at 8:22 p.m. that the juvenile had been shot on the 500 block of Main Street.
Police ruled the shooting as accidental, but had not yet determined whether it was self-inflicted or if the boy's friend had accidentally shot him.
The boy and his friend, also a juvenile, were playing with guns in the Main Street house, according to Lt. T.M. Abbott of the Charleston Police Department. Several stolen guns were found at the house, and police plan to further investigate the house owner's connection to area burglaries, Abbott said.
Two juveniles were detained by police at the scene. The boy was taken to CAMC General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
