FestivALL, Pies & Pints among Peoples Choice winners
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charlestonians have voted, and the winners of the first People's Choice Awards from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau are not too surprising: Mountain Stage is their favorite attraction, FestivALL their favorite event and Taylor Books their favorite retail store or boutique.
Local residents and visitors cast hundreds of votes, mainly by scanning QR codes with their smartphones at area restaurants, hotels and stores and filling out online ballots last month, said Lindsay Gardner of the Charleston CVB.
The bureau honored the winners Monday evening at a reception at the Charleston Civic Center. The winners got trophies, plaques to hang in their place of business and bragging rights for the next year.
Other winners include: favorite restaurant -- Pies & Pints; specialty drink -- sangria, Lola's; food dish -- black bean pie, Pies & Pints; lodging -- Embassy Suites.
Also, the CVB honored three tourism industry staff members who were nominated by friends or co-workers: hotel employee -- Keith Redmon, Marriott; restaurant employee -- Dana Mindrescu, Marriott; and frontline ambassador -- Aaron Clark, Bridge Road Bistro.
