State man faces 43 years in woman's 2011 death

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A Morgantown man faces as many as 43 years in prison in connection with the October 2011 slaying of a Fairmont woman.Forty-year-old Kevin Utter entered an Alford plea to a second-degree murder charge in Monongalia County Circuit Court on Tuesday. That means he doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges there's enough evidence for conviction.Police charged Utter with killing 33-year-old Christina Terry. Prosecutor Marcia Ashdown told media outlets after the hearing they still don't know his motive. The two had met that night at a Morgantown bar.
Utter also entered an Alford plea to third-degree arson. Terry's car was set ablaze.Ashdown said Utter choked Terry, then either hit her or ran over her with her own car.Terry's body was found near University High School several hours later.
