CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Blue Collar comedy returns to Huntington on Friday night with Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall
. The two funnymen will crack jokes and talk about life as seen through a slightly askew working class lens. The gazz recently spoke with Engvall, who talked about not hunting with Jeff Foxworthy, his new television projects and who goes first when he tours with other comedians.Q:
The last time we talked, you'd just come off of jury duty and you were talking some about that. What's happening now?A:
"I've been touring a lot. We shot a new TV show pilot for TBS called 'Do It Yourself.' Hopefully, they'll make a decision on that in a couple of weeks. We have a CMT show, 'The Bounty Hunters,' coming out with Larry, Jeff and me. And life is just kind of moving along."Q:
In your act, you talk about your kids and getting older. Any grandkids yet?A:
"Nope. I don't even have a son-in-law yet, and I'm fine with that. Probably things will be happening soon with my daughter. She's 26, but my 21 year-old-son - he can take his time."Q:
When touring with other comedians, how do you guys figure out who goes first?A:
"I make that easy. I just say, 'I'll go first.' There was a time in my life when I said, 'Oh, I need to be the last guy,' but that's one of the great things about this show. It doesn't matter who goes on last. You're going to get a great show from both of us."But I have no problem going first, because that means I'm the first one out. I can get on the plane to the next gig or get to get a bar and get a beer."
What's your down time like?A:
"My wife and I play golf. I love pretty much anything outdoors - fishing, hunting. I like to go down to the ranch, but I haven't been in a while."Q:
eff Foxworthy has mentioned that he likes to hunt. Do you guys ever go hunting together?A:
"You know, in all the years we've known each other, we've never gone hunting together, but I think that's because of locale. He's in Atlanta, and I'm in L.A."It's funny. I brought it up with him the last time I saw him. I asked him, 'Are we ever going to hunt together or are we just going to talk about it?'"Q:
Is there good hunting in Los Angeles?
(Laughs) "Depends on what you're hunting."Reach Bill Lynch at firstname.lastname@example.org or 304-348-5195.
