Summers man killed in Fayette wreck
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Summers County man was killed after another driver hit his car head-on near Camp Branch Road on W.Va. 61 in Fayette County.
The 69-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene after Jeffery Hilewitz, 53, of Cannelton, crossed into the unidentified man's lane and struck his vehicle at 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.
Fayette County Sheriff's deputies are not releasing the name of the other driver until his family is notified. His body was taken to Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
Healthnet Air Ambulance Service transported Hilewitz to Charleston Area Medical Center, where his condition remains unknown.
Deputies said the cause of the accident and whether drugs or alcohol were factors remain unknown.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
W.Va. 61 was closed for more than an hour while firefighters from the Loup Creek and Oak Hill volunteer fire departments removed both drivers from their vehicles.
