CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County officials are working on a plan to install wireless Internet in the Kanawha County Courthouse annex.Kanawha County Manager Jennifer Sayre said several judges had requested wireless Internet access, but Kanawha County prosecutor Mark Plants and public defenders have also asked for Wi-Fi for easier access to records."We think it's time to move forward on that," Sayre said Wednesday.Discussion of installing a wireless internet system for the annex is expected to come up at a regular meeting of the Kanawha County Commission tonight.
"It's a question of cost and how we're going to pay for it," said Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper. "I'm going to do everything I can to see that we get that service."
Sayre said county officials have gotten several different cost estimates for installing Wi-Fi at the annex, but thinks the project can be done for less than $50,000.She said county officials will bid out the project.Carper said the old county courthouse already has some wireless internet capability.Reach Rusty Marks at email@example.com or 304-348-1215.
