Woman hit by train in Gorge identified
GLEN JEAN, W.Va. -- The National Park Service has identified a homeless woman from Kentucky who was killed by a train in the New River Gorge National River.
The park service said Thursday that Chandra Turner, 49, from Louisville, Ky., was walking along the CSX mainline tracks in a heavy rainstorm when a freight train struck and killed her Monday.
The park service says Turner had covered her head with a blanket. She didn't react in time to avoid being hit after engineers sounded horns and tried to brake the train.
The accident occurred downstream from Glade Creek on the Fayette County side of the river.
