Vandals caused water damage to Thomas Memorial Hospital
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Officials for Thomas Hospital's parent company say vandals caused a water leak at the South Charleston hospital earlier this month.
Thomas Health System senior vice president of business development Bob Gray says someone stole caps off a valve on a water pipe in a second-floor stairwell May 8.
The Charleston Daily Mail reports the falling water pressure set off an alarm hospital-wide, and the stairwell was flooded by the time firefighters responded.
Gray says 4 inches of water accumulated in the lobby of the hospital's Clinical Pavilion. He says drywall and insulation are being replaced.Thomas Health System spokeswoman Paige Johnson says more secure caps for the pipe have been ordered. Damage is still being estimated.
