Woman posed as nurse to steal pills, police say

CHESAPEAKE, W.Va. -- A woman pretended to be a home health nurse to steal a 70-year-old woman's painkillers, State Police said Thursday.Tabitha Brook Osbourne, 25, of Chesapeake, was charged with first-degree burglary, a felony. Osbourne allegedly went to the home of Margaret Vance in Winifrede on Wednesday and identified herself as a nurse, according to a news release from State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous.Vance recently checked out of a hospital and believed Osbourne was there to check in on her. Once inside, Osbourne took a bottle of hydrocodone pills before fleeing in a blue sedan, police said.Vance's daughter later reported the missing pills to State Police at the Quincy detachment and Vance identified Osbourne as a suspect, Baylous said.Upon questioning, Osbourne told Cpl. R.H. Greene that she is addicted to opiates and had lied about being a nurse to get into the woman's home, according to State Police.
Osbourne was being held Thursday in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bail.
