Three state schools getting fitness centers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Three West Virginia schools are receiving $100,000 worth of physical education equipment each as part of a national fitness promotion.Stratton Elementary School in Beckley, Bridge Street Middle School in Wheeling and Southside K-8 in War have won grants from the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Council.Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says the schools worked hard to bring innovative fitness ideas to their students. The fitness centers are to be installed this summer and dedicated in the fall.Priority was given to schools with a high percentage of participation in free and reduced-price meal programs; those with a significant proportion of students considered to be overweight or obese compared to the state average; and schools demonstrating a robust plan for using the equipment.
