Huntington area events planned to celebrate W.Va.'s 150th birthday
The Cabell-Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the following events will be held Thursday as part of West Virginia's 150th birthday celebration:
West Virginia Day/Happy 150th West Virginia: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Interstate 64 East Welcome Center at mile marker 10, Huntington, with cupcakes, refreshments and giveaways. A water safety demonstration featuring a kid-friendly remote-controlled tugboat will be provided by the Army Corps of Engineers. Other vendors include The Huntington Art Museum, Ace White Water Rafting, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, Quilting by Jennifer Hill, and Huntington's Museum of Radio and Technology. WV Senior Sports Classic: 4 p.m. in Huntington. The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic has provided a way for active senior athletes in the region to compete against their peers in 17 sporting events. This event is the only way senior athletes from our area can qualify for the National Senior Games. A torch relay begins at Pullman Square with opening ceremonies held at 5 p.m. at St. Mary's Education Center. Registration for the relay will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the center.
