State police seize Mercer fireboard records
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Officials are looking into records at the Mercer County Fire Board after an irregularity was noted by a state auditor.
The West Virginia State Police executed a search warrant Wednesday morning.
Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that an investigation will to see if there is any wrongdoing or if it's just bad recordkeeping.
Ash says the information will be provided to the state police and state auditors who will investigate and report back if there is any criminal wrongdoing.
Officials say the board is responsible for collecting fire fees and distributing the money to volunteer fire departments.
A member of the advisory board declined to comment Wednesday.
