Suspects sought in Institute shooting
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are looking for three men involved in a shooting Thursday in the Institute area.
Deputies went to Thomas Memorial Hospital just after noon Thursday to talk to Stephen Humphries, 21, of Nitro, who drove to the hospital after being shot, according to Lt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Humphries told deputies he was on Curtis Lane in the West Dunbar/Institute area looking for his sister when three black men walked up and demanded his money. When he refused, one man pulled out a gun and shot at Humphries, hitting him in the leg.
Humphries jumped into his car and sped off without turning over his wallet, Crosier said.
Each of the men is described as being about 5 feet 11 inches tall and in their mid-20s. The man with the gun was of medium build, with mid-length hair, Crosier said. He was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. C.E. O'Neal at 304-357-1069. Callers may remain anonymous.
