takes place in New York, it's filmed in Los Angeles. That's where 15-year-old Peyton List
, who plays Emma Ross on the show, was at on an early morning this week, but not for long. She was headed to the Big Apple and looking forward to it."I'm from New York originally; I lived in Brooklyn," she said en route to the airport, where she would head East, first to Gatlinburg, Tenn., for a meet-and-greet, then to New York to visit her best friend and enjoy a short stay and then here, for a meet-and-greet at Charleston Town Center beginning at noon today.List has time to visit friends and fans now because "Jessie" is on hiatus. On July 29, she and her co-stars will head back to work for season three of the comedy about the titular Jessie (Debby Ryan), a nanny to a celebrity couple's four children -- Emma, Luke (Cameron Boyce), Ravi (Karan Brar) and Zuri (Skai Jackson).
List said she doesn't know what might happen this season."They didn't tell us anything about season three," she said. "I'm waiting to get the first script."I hope Emma gets to do more with fashion," she added. "She did a lot with Kitty Couture, her fashion blog, in season two. I hope she gets to do more. It was really fun."Like her character, List is quite the fashionista. She has two Instagram accounts -- her own (peypeylist
) and one with friends (fashionloverandadvice
) -- where her style is on full display.
"I'm very girly. I like to dress up," she said.As for her style?
"It just depends on the day: one day could be girly, one day sporty. I don't really have a set style."And what you see Emma wear on "Jessie" is what you might see List wear in real life."Emma's style is based off mine," she said. "Sometimes I'll buy something over the weekend with my friends at the mall, and I'll come in [to work] Monday and see [the same thing] in my closet."Her favorite designer at the moment is Ted Baker
"Emma wears a lot of that on the show," she said.Style aside, "I don't know how much [Emma and I] have in common. I hope I'm a little bit smarter than her," List said with a laugh. There are other little things. They're both the same age and in the same grade at school. They both have two brothers. They also both have pets. List's family has a Shih Tzu named Windsor, and Emma shares her penthouse apartment with Mrs. Kipling, a seven-foot water monitor lizard that belongs to Ravi."It's pretty crazy," List said of working with the animal, whose real name is Frank. "It takes getting used to."She said that in one episode where Emma and Mrs. Kipling spent a lot of time together, she had to wear pads underneath her clothing in case something happened. She also recalled an instance where he peed in the elevator in the middle of a scene."His pee is toxic; we had to evacuate the elevator."When List isn't having adventures on the "Jessie" set, she's exploring other acting avenues. She appeared as Holly Hills in the second and third "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" films ("Roderick Rules" and "Dog Days"), and she recently wrapped production on a TV movie, "A Sister's Nightmare."The family thriller about a woman who shows up at her police officer sister's home after 16 years in a psychiatric hospital also stars Kelly Rutherford ("Gossip Girl"), Natasha Henstridge ("The Secret Circle") and Matthew Settle ("Gossip Girl"). It is currently in post-production, with no airdate set.Prior to "Jessie," List appeared in a number of films, including "27 Dresses" (as a young Katherine Heigl), "Something Borrowed" (as a young Kate Hudson), "Remember Me," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic.""I definitely want to get more into film," she said. "When I'm on hiatus, I'm going to try to get some of that in."In the meantime, she's looking forward to visiting West Virginia, even if only briefly."I've driven through before on road trips, but I haven't actually stopped, so I'm really excited."Reach Amy Robinson at email@example.com or 304-348-4881.
