WELCH, W.Va. -- A crew of workers in McDowell County will repair military tents damaged in Afghanistan and Iraq.More than 50 people have applied for the 15 positions, said Peni Adams, director of the county Economic Development Authority."Non-military people will do the work and repairs," Adams told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. "Of course they would love for some of them to be veterans who would be having trouble finding jobs."Adams said the program is an initiative through the National Guard. The work will be done at the National Guard Armory in Welch.
Crews will work four 10-hour days a week.Tents will be shipped each Monday to McDowell County. Following repairs, tents will be shipped Thursday to either a new military destination or a storage facility, Adams said. The program will continue as long as funding is available.
