Droop Mountain hike
Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park Superintendent Mike Smith will lead a "Beyond the Battlefield" hike on Droop Mountain on Saturday. The hike will follow the 2nd and 3rd West Virginia Infantry route. About 4 miles long with an 800-foot elevation change, this hike heads up a steep, forested finger ridge up to the Droop Mountain Lookout Tower. Long pants and hiking boots are recommended. Whirlwind Storage of Hurricane will hold a fundraiser for the Children's Home Society of West Virginia to help support the WE CAN Mentoring Program and various other programs that are provided. A garage and bake sale will take place Friday and Saturday at their offices in Hurricane, located across from Hurricane High School.

West Virginia Small Business Development Center will offer a workshop on "Business Fundamentals" from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the WVSBDC, 301B George St., Beckley. The workshop is part of the West Virginia Small Business Development Center WVSBDC training and business coaching program Three Step Jump Start to help small business owners receive the right information at the right time. Registration is required at least two days in advance. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. The price is $35 per person.
