Arrests made in East End copper thefts
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police have made two arrests in connection with a string of copper thefts in the city's East End.
Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department said hundreds of pounds of copper downspouts and piping in the East End have been stolen in recent weeks. Police arrested two people this week believed to be involved in the thefts.
Brittany Renee Vandale, 21, of Charleston was arrested Monday and charged with transferring and receiving stolen property. Jerrith Edward Witt, 22, of Charleston was arrested Tuesday and charged with burglary, Hazelett said.
Further charges are expected against Vandale and Witt, he said. Vandale was in the South Central Regional Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $12,500. Witt was in the South Central Regional Jail with bail set at $10,000.
