Ridgeley considers limiting video lottery machines

RIDGELEY, W.Va. -- Ridgeley is considering limiting the number of video lottery machines within its borders.A July 23 public hearing is set on a proposed ordinance that would cap the number of machines at 35.
The proposed limit follows opposition by residents and Town Council members to a tavern that's scheduled to open.Councilman Dr. Richard Lechliter told the Cumberland Times-News the Canal Hotspot will have five video lottery machines. There currently are 30 machines operating in the town.
The Canal Hotspot received a Class A/tavern non-intoxicating beer-only license from the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration in June. More than 200 residents had signed a petition opposing the tavern.
