West Virginia University Extension Service will host a canning workshop 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Extension Office in Kanawha City. Choose the method of preserving green beans in a pressure canner or preserving tomatoes in a hot water bath. The cost is $15, made payable to West Virginia University. Charleston Area Alliance will have its 2013 Golf Scramble beginning with registration at 10 a.m. on Sept. 16 at Edgewood Golf Club, Derrick's Creek Course. The cost is $150 for individual and $600 for foursome. After Sept. 9, the fees are $250 for singles and $800 for foursome.
