RIPLEY, W.Va. -- A Jackson County man accused of torturing his wife for more than a decade will be on trial in October.Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Evans set an Oct. 15 trial date for 39-year-old Peter Lizon.Lizon was indicted on a malicious wounding charge in June. Police arrested him in July 2012 after they said he shackled and abused his wife, Stephanie, at their farm in Leroy. Stephanie Lizon has denied the abuse and is nine-months pregnant with their second child.Evans said Peter Lizon could be present for his child's birth, said Mike Hissam, Lizon's attorney. However, Peter Lizon is still not allowed to visit Stephanie or their first child as a condition of his release on bail, Hissam said.
Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Kennad Skeen recused himself from Lizon's case earlier this month because he represented Peter and Stephanie Lizon in unrelated cases.The case has been reassigned to Mason County Prosecutor Craig Tatterson.
Last month, Peter Lizon told the Gazette that he never hurt his wife.
