Two arrested in Martinsburg mausoleum robbery
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Two Berkeley County men have been arrested in the theft of jewelry from bodies in a Martinsburg mausoleum, police said.
David Bowers III, 24, of Hedgesville, and Richard Ruffner, 29, of Inwood, were charged with felony destruction of property and displacement of a dead body, State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous said in a news release.
Workers at the Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg reported damage to two mausoleums Sunday.
Troopers later discovered the crypts had been opened with hand tools and several caskets pulled out. Bowers and Ruffner allegedly sold the stolen jewelry to two stores in the Martinsburg Mall, according to the release. Troopers are looking for a third suspect, Baylous said.
