Barbour man who drugged prosecutor wife pleads guilty


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The husband of a prosecutor in north-central West Virginia has pleaded guilty to drugging his wife so he could examine her cellphone and email histories.The Exponent Telegram reported 42-year-old William Francis Poling Jr. pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery Friday in Monongalia County Magistrate Court. He was fined $500 and agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution.Poling is estranged from his wife, Barbour County Prosecutor Leckta Poling.State Police Sgt. G.S. Petsko said Frank Poling doubted the stability of his 19-year marriage and admitted to slipping a sedative into her drink last year.
Special Prosecutor Lea Anne Hawkins of Marion County handled the case. Poling is the son of Delegate Mary Poling, D-Barbour.
