Fairmont State dean arrested on sexual assault charge
FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The dean of the fine arts department at Fairmont State University has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and placed on administrative leave.Peter Lach, 68, of Fairmont, was arrested Sunday by university police, according to a criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court.A male employee at the school told police that on Saturday, while in Lach's office in Wallman Hall, Lach pulled down the victim's pants, forcefully restrained him and initiated oral sex.When the victim told Lach to stop, Lach shoved the victim to the ground and caused him to hit his head on a copy machine, the complaint states.
The victim went to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport and reported the assault.Lach has worked at the school since July 5, 2002, according to Fairmont State spokeswoman Anne Booth. He was released from the Northern Regional Jail on $50,000 bail on Monday.Booth said after officials at the school were informed about the alleged incident, State Police were called to assist with the investigation."Peter Lach was arrested without incident. The case is now in the hands of the Marion County Prosecutor's office and he has been placed on administrative leave," Booth said.
