Charleston Parks and Recreation Department will open the North Charleston Swimming Pool for the dogs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday. Opening ceremonies for the Upper Kanawha Valley Homecoming Festival 2013 will be held at 5 p.m. today on the Riverside High School grounds at Quincy. Local bands will perform, including Kayla Sloan of Logan who will sing Thursday evening. Sloan has recently appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and is also known as the Singing Walmart Cashier. There will be carnival rides, a fishing attraction for the children, food and craft vendors.
Unity of Kanawha Valley will have its Karaoke Night at 7 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. General admission is $2. Everyone is welcome to come and share talents. There will be singing, dancing and food to share. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small donation cost. Free clothing

The Doddridge County Fair will have its 24th annual Amateur Talent Show at 7 p.m. Aug. 21. Singing, dancing, acting, comedy and all types of entertainment are encouraged.
