Dog swimCharleston Parks and Recreation Department will open the North Charleston Swimming Pool for the dogs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday. The pool is located at 2009 Seventh Ave. The dog swim also will be offered from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday. For information, call 304-348-6884.Opening ceremoniesOpening ceremonies for the Upper Kanawha Valley Homecoming Festival 2013 will be held at 5 p.m. today on the Riverside High School grounds at Quincy. Local bands will perform, including Kayla Sloan of Logan who will sing Thursday evening. Sloan has recently appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and is also known as the Singing Walmart Cashier. There will be carnival rides, a fishing attraction for the children, food and craft vendors. Karaoke Night
Unity of Kanawha Valley will have its Karaoke Night at 7 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. General admission is $2. Everyone is welcome to come and share talents. There will be singing, dancing and food to share. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small donation cost.  Free clothing A clothing giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Home, Pennsylvania Avenue, St. Albans.Talent showThe Doddridge County Fair will have its 24th annual Amateur Talent Show at 7 p.m. Aug. 21. Singing, dancing, acting, comedy and all types of entertainment are encouraged. Guest emcee will be Palmer Stephens of the Bear 101.3. Deadline to register is today. Entry fee is $5. There will be three age divisions: junior (11 and younger), teen (12-16), and adult (17 and older).
