Controlled release planned at East Lynn Lake

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A controlled release is planned at East Lynn Lake to study ways to improve Twelvepole Creek's water quality and ecological resources. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the release will be conducted on Aug. 20. The release will begin at 7 a.m. and gradually increase to a peak of 1,600 cubic feet per second around 2 p.m. The release will gradually decrease to normal by 10 p.m.
The water level downstream of the dam is expected to rise by 7. But the corps says it will remain below flood stage. The corps says the controlled release will provide information on how temperature, sedimentation and aquatic habitat downstream of the dam are affected by pulse flows after a large rain event.
