Man hit by tractor-trailer near Belle
DUPONT CITY, W.Va. -- A Kanawha County man was in the hospital after being hit by a tractor-trailer early Wednesday morning in Dupont City.
Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said a Con-Way Freight tractor-trailer was heading east along the 3100 block of Dupont Avenue in Dupont City, near Belle, just before 3 a.m. when the driver hit a pedestrian.
The driver told authorities he saw a man walking east in the westbound lane just before the accident. He said something darted in front of the truck as he was passing the man.
Humphreys said the driver stopped and began searching with his flashlight, and found the man in a ditch. He said the victim was taken to CAMC General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and was conscious and talking.
Humphreys said the truck driver showed no signs of drug or alcohol use. A precautionary blood test showed he had absolutely no alcohol in his system, Humphreys said. Names of the driver and victim have not yet been released. Authorities are unsure whether the victim of the accident was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
