Two staffing agency execs sentenced for tax evasion
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two staffing agency executives have been sentenced to prison in a tax evasion scheme.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says 60-year-old Daniel Hovis of Whittier, N.C., was sentenced to two years in prison, while 62-year-old Janice Hensley of Charleston was sentenced to one year and eight months.
They pleaded guilty in May to failure to pay more than $630,000 in employment taxes owed to the IRS.
Hovis is president of Career Search One Inc. Hensley is its vice president.
Goodwin says they withheld trust fund taxes from many employees' paychecks and used the money to pay personal expenses.
Career Search One specialized in providing employees to client businesses for a fee. The corporation had primary bookkeeping offices in Charleston and Wheeling. Hovis and Hensley both worked out of the Charleston location.
